Guess What! Mrs. Zoliner rocks! She would even tell you that herself!

Mrs. Zoliner has set up a new website to help track the number of minutes that students are reading. http://lmc.ipsd.org/georgetownreads/default.asp

Students will be coming home with a letter explaining more about this new activity! Be looking for it soon! The program will start November 1st.

IPSD 204 has created a technology curriculum to help students focus on what computer skills they need to have mastered and which they should be exposed to. Each student will be taking a pre-assessment to see what knowledge he/she already have and then additional practice will be planned. A post-assessment will be given at the end of the year to check learning. Ask me if you are interested in le

Hello All,

I am so proud of our students so far! We are all practicing to take advantage of our learning time without wasting time. I am working to help the students be independent and try activities to challenge themselves. Many students are realizing that they are able to accomplish more than they expect. I have told them that if they think I am hovering or hindering their learning time, the students are to politely tell me they understand the concepts. I am already seeing students use time more wisely!!!!

In science we are discussing and learning about our body's digestive system. You should ask the students if they are interested in telling you about Mrs. Searcy eating chocolate upside down. :)

Math is going well. Pleas help students practice their math facts. Many students know how to do very difficult math problems. However, the only issue is that students are struggling to complete it because they do not know their multiplication facts. Practice at home a few minutes every day!

Keep checking back for updates or click the RSS Feed button to get email when the website gets updated.

I am proud of my science students! Today, (May, 14) they got the opportunity to turn in their poster depicting the science experiment they created using magnetism and electricity. So many students got them turned in on time. Each poster I saw today was great! The students thought outside the box and really created a thorough project including s hypothesis, procedures, materials, results, conclusions, and additional questions that came after they completed and practiced the experiement.

Reminder:
The students have just completed their book clubs. They have their final projects due next Friday, May 22. The students got the opportunity to chose their own project and how they want to depict their understanding of the book they read.

We have many exciting fifth grade activities coming up between now and the end of the year. Please remind your student to show respect, maturity, and patience. I would hate for anyone to miss one of the fun times we get to have.

Parents, don't forget to sign the assignment book daily to help our kids get organized for middle school. I know that it will be more difficult next year as students visit different classes and teachers. The fifth grade musical is Tuesday, April 21st. Be sure to have your students at school on time. The musical begins promptly at 7:00, students are to be at school 6:45! No Later!

We started a new science unit! Magnetism and Electricity. I am really excited about the concepts we get to cover include what is an atom and atom structure, magnetic poles, types of current, and static/electrical current. This unit allows for a ton of hands on lessons!

Our spelling tests are moving to a pretest on Monday and posttests on Friday. We are beginning to start studying our reading story on Mondays and test the skills on Fridays.

Hope this helps to keep you all more up to date with class activities. Email or call me if you ever have questions.

Thanks for all the support you give your student! It only helps them to be a stronger person later!

I want you all to know that I am very proud of my class this last week. I became very ill and missed Tuesday and Wednesday. Many of the students were respectful to the subs and completed the expected work. I would to thank all of those students.

Please make sure that the students are completing all work as the end of the school year comes upon us, I am finding some students are only completing half of their assignments.

I hope that everyone had a great, safe break! I am excited to have the kids back in the classroom.

Have your kids told you about the new things happening in our classroom?

Well.... for starters we have a new style for our assignment books. Each day there is room for assignments as well as the topic of what we studied in each subject. Plus! There is a line, at the side, for a parent's signature. For each day school is in session, the student can get a parent's signature. If there is a signature for each day, at the end of the week the student will be rewarded.

We got a SMARTBOARD!!! This is an amazing tool that takes up the entire middle of our chalkboard. This is a giant computer screen (69" I believe) that we can touch. It's a huge touch screen! We spent Monday trying new things. We could touch dice that spun on the screen, balloons that popped to show the correct answer, writing with our hands and erasing with the touch of a finger. This is the coolest piece of equipment ever!!

Ask your student about our new things!

Hi!
I am really proud of this fifth grade class! They are constantly working towards their best. Please keep encouraging your students to be productive during class as I have noticed that some are more busy socializing and are being redirected more often.

Check the homework page to help your child to be prepared for class. Many students forgot to complete homework or it was left at home.

Thank you so very much for your support!

Mrs. Searcy

Hello Families,

As the weather gets warmer, please help to allow your child to get a good night's sleep. I know it is harder to get kiddos to slow down now that it is warmer out and the sun shines longer. I am noticing students struggling to get through the day as they are easily tired.

The pie sale has begun! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Keep studying division math facts. I am finding the our students know how to do math operations, however, they are slowed by the processes of basic multiplication and division. If you need practice cards or sheers please let me know. I have some extras. Thank you for all of the support! I am excited about all of the progress that our kids are making!

Hello~

Fifth grade has been studying weather. Now that our students have the knowledge of what goes into predicting and forecasting the weather, they now get to become a meterologist, create a weather map, and give a short forecast as a "weather tv anchor."

Please allow your student to watch the weather reports on the local news and maybe CNN or MSNBC, if possible. This will allow them to see what we are looking for and what a real forecast would look like. This will help them to prepare better and practice what a real meterologist does.

Let me know if you have a questions!

I am excited to get started! ~ Mrs. Searcy

Hello All,

I love getting the messages from you all! I am glad that you are practicing using the different parts of our website.

I also love all of the suggestions that I am getting. Keep them coming as I am always looking for ways to keep you all involved and informed!

Thanks for such a great ISAT week!
